Green Party Launch, The October Gallery

Now that I find myself in the world of long-form narrative, I took another look at photographs I’d taken on my very first shoot on The Green Party at The October Gallery back in February.

The shoot was mostly spent getting my bearings on who was who and focusing on Natalie for the use of the campaign but in amongst it all I have found some images that might be able to sit alongside the larger edit I’m currently working on, which is still in its early stages – as is the campaign itself.

Editing. Printing. More editing.

I love big screens and Adobe Bridge but there isn’t anything quite like moving things around on an actual table.

And sadly, I’m very excited about doing this.

I’ll be posting more from The Green Party edit tomorrow. It’s fun how everyday your eye seems to see something different. It might be that something you thought was good is actually crap, or that a picture you previously dismissed has somehow come alive.

Green Party Action weekend, Highgate and St. Pancras, London, 29th February – 1st March 2015

This weekend was packed full of canvassing for The Camden Green Party. As well as officially promoting the Green Party in the build up to the 2015 general election, I’ve been trying to shoot my own work around their campaign, which I have found to be less successful as I’m still discovering what exactly my work is about. I’m hoping it will naturally evolve as time goes by and photographs continue to be taken.

So with my Green Party hat on, I’ll start by sharing what I’m happy with and continue posting as I discover more about my own project.

Identity crisis in Photojournalism

Identity crisis in Photojournalism

Are Photjournalists truly appreciated in the public eye?

“Anyone can get lucky with a few pictures, just like pretty much everyone has one or two dishes they’ve mastered in the kitchen,” said Brooklyn-based freelance photographer Scout Tufankjian, who has documented President Obama, the Haitian earthquake and Arab Spring. “That doesn’t mean that they can produce solid, compelling and ethically produced stories on demand. I make great hummus and kibbe. That doesn’t mean I’m capable of running a restaurant.”

“For many photojournalists, Hart included, the problem is not the iPhone, which is merely a device, after all. The problem is that using it—or any camera, professionally requires an understanding of visual storytelling, which is about sequencing and patience, framing, knowing what to exclude as much as what to include.”
